DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY WOOD BEFORE APPLYING A PROTECTOR, EVEN THOUGH IT'S NEW?
Yes. ALWAYS clean wood before applying a Protector, using the Wood Cleaner from Techniseal.
CAN I APPLY A MAINTENANCE-FREE PROTECTOR EVEN THOUGH THE WOOD IS STILL DAMP?
Although it is highly recommended to apply the product on dry wood, it can also be applied if wood is slighty damp.
CAN I APPLY A MAINTENANCE-FREE PROTECTOR OVER PAINTED WOOD?
No. In order to penetrate, Techniseal's Maintenance-free Protector needs to be applied over bare wood.
CAN I APPLY A MAINTENANCE-FREE PROTECTOR OVER TECHNISEAL'S DISCONTINUED WATER-REPELLENT SEALANT FOR WOOD?
Yes. But first, you must carry out a water-repellency test, as described on the directions. If water beads on the surface, you will have to wait or strip with Techniseal's Stripper for Wood.
CAN I APPLY 2 COATS OF THE PROTECTOR?
It is recommended to apply only one coat, to saturation. However, if a second coats needs to be applied, it should be done before the first one has dried, which should take a few minutes.
SHOULD I USE A PRESSURE WASHER TO CLEAN WOOD?
When using the Wood Cleaner to clean wood, for better result and to make the job easier, it is advantageous to rinse with a pressure washer. However, it is important to keep the pressure low to avoid damaging the wood.
WILL A MAINTENANCE-FREE PROTECTOR PREVENT WOOD FROM GREYING?
Although Techniseal's Maintenance-free Protector will considerably slow down the greying process, it will not stop it completely.
WHY IS WOOD GREYING?
Contrary to popular belief, the greying of wood is not a sign of deterioration, but is a natural phenomenon caused by oxidation and accumulation of dust in the capillaries of wood.
SHOULD I SAND MY WOOD BEFORE APPLYING A MAINTENANCE-FREE PROTECTOR?
Sanding is not mandatory, but will provide a smoother and more uniform finish.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT BEFORE REAPPLYING THE MAINTENANCE-FREE PROTECTOR?
Wood should be re-treated after it has lost its water-repelency. In normal condition, this should take approximately 4 years.
